Stink Bugs

Yes, stink bugs. Another totem and message… I have been seeing them everywhere, there is one in the house somewhere and every once in a while Coco finds it and tries to get it. No luck yet. lol

I’ve just realized when I wrote about spiders that I’ve been seeing brown Stink Bugs a lot these past 2 weeks. On my screens mainly but in the house as well. Some were already dead.

What Are Stink Bugs?

Pentatomoidea, commonly known as stink bugs or shield bugs, is referred to a super family of insects belonging to the Heteroptera suborder. In this suborder, the insects share common characteristics such as piercing mouthparts as well as a particular kind of wings, which are toughened at the base and membranous at the tips.

The scientific name of stink bugs, Pentatomoidea, has been derived from the fact that they have an antenna which is divided into five segments. Stink bugs have broad bodies that are either in triangular or semi-elliptical shape. Their bodies serve the purpose of defensive shield against predators; this is why they are sometimes referred to as “shield bugs”.

Stink bugs excrete offensive smelling liquid from their thorax glands that are placed in between the first and second pair of legs. When they are molested or attacked by predators, they produce this liquid defensively in order to put off potential threat to their lives. Usually, they are not considered to be pests for they do not render significant loss to plants; however, when they make a larger group, they may become considerable pests.

It is worth mentioning here that all stink bugs have sucking mouthparts and broad bodies, but still there are variations in their body colorings. On account of this distinction they are further divided into fifteen different species. Among them brown stink bugs and green stink bugs are the most famous types.

Brown Stink Bugs

Brown Marmorated Stink Bug

The Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs, scientifically known as Halyomorpha halys, are insects in Pentatomoideafamily found in Asian counties like China and Japan. The size of adult brown stink bugs varies from individual to individual ranging from 1.5 cm long to 2 cm. When they are nymphs, they are red in color that becomes black and ultimately brown as soon as they become adults. Although their underside remains white even after reaching adulthood, it is their brown legs with faint white banding that make them distinct from other similar bugs.

The brown marmorated stink bugs are regarded as agricultural pests for they render widespread harm to fruits and vegetable crops. Their major hosts include maple, birch, serviceberry, catalpa, butterfly bush, pecan, redbud, hackberry, pepper, dogwood, citrus, cucumber, tomato, sunflower, apple, pear, plum, and grape. Brown stink bugs use their proboscis to suck the host plants and resultantly they not only create necrotic areas on the surface of fruits but also even cause seed loss and transfer of plant pathogens.

Another distinct characteristic of brown bugs is that they go into the state of hibernation in winter seasons and invade homes or structures where temperature does not fall critically. Their hideouts include under siding, windows and door frames. However, in spring they remain active in feeding on plants and vegetables.”

I only remembered about the Stink Bugs after the Spider dream… if you look up Spider in the Animal Totems the Stink Bug is right under it. I guess Spirit hit me over the head with spiders to get to the Stink Bug Totem. I don’t think every creature I see or dream about is a totem for me, but when you see them over and over on a daily basis… well then there is a message… especially if you have been asking for signs from The Universe! 🙂

Here is what it says in my Animal Totem Dictionary about them Stink Bugs:

Stink Bug:

Stink Bug aids with clarifying dreams, visions and insights. She can show the connections between seemingly separate unrelated events with heightened intuition. Pay attention to your instincts about people, situations and circumstances. She can demonstrate the order in which things are done, designating each level in the process of metamorphosis. Increased sensitivity to what is hidden and reading between the lines occurs with Stink Bug medicine. She can be a sharp communicator getting to the point. Are you being direct? She helps protect and shield energy and emotions when needed. She teaches the balance of concealment and surfacing. Are you stepping forward at work, school, community or relationships? Are you overloaded and need to step back? Odors have both attractant and repellent qualities. Stink Bug will guide in the proper use and balance of the positive and negative attributes of what is psychically sensed as well as what is physically sensed in your surroundings. Stink Bug medicine shows how to transform and shed what is no longer needed. The first 12 to 14 days will show which direction you should be going. There are five separate stages as insights are gained and growth is achieved. Stink Bug’s lessons span a period of about a month when new ideals and thoughts are fully developed.

This is amazing and explains what I have and am still going through!!!!

Felt like sharing this too 🙂

Along Came a Spider

Usually spiders creep us out. I can remember a snapshot of one of them covering a spider with an entire can of Raid and then covering it with a pie pan and placing something really heavy over it so the spider wouldn’t escape.

Me thinks that if you use enough Raid that it foams up like mount Everest that spider ain’t going anywhere but to spider heaven.

Of course the next morning she pushed the pan on top of the pie pan off with a broom… scared to death… wearing boots so that when the spider crawled out she could smoosh it with her heavy boots. So what did she find? Nothing was there, just a damp spot from the mountain of Raid she sprayed it with. She was terrified all day not realizing that the Raid most likely dissolved the spider. Geeze we’re going back to us as maybe 18 or 19 years old at the most. She thought that she created a mutant spider immune from Raid…. I’m not kidding.

Back to the original idea here…. as I woke this morning I realized I had a dream about spiders. Spiders and webs all in my way… Spiders and webs everywhere…. eiw eiw eiw… we’re talking about someone who as a child would stand and scream bloody murder if she happened to wander into a web. Someone would have to rescue her… I don’t know why, but spider webs REALLY freak us out, some more than others. It’s the stickiness I think… eiw eiw eiw eiw eiw… ok .

Here is what I read about dreams of spiders and as far as I know I have never had a dream like this before. I like this site for dream info. Here it is if you want to check the entire site out: Dream Moods. I will highlight the dream portion as to what it means for me personally… it’s uncanny how some hits right on.

To see a spider in your dream indicates that you are feeling like an outsider in some situation. {I do believe I feel like an outsider, left behind, partly due to the DID and recently bringing it out into the open as well as not being able to drive and just go out anywhere – it’s damn cold here! At 1:51pm on 1/7/14 it is a whopping 7 degrees F.}

Or perhaps you want to keep your distance and stay away from an alluring and tempting situation. {This is true, I don’t want to give up any part of myself to anyone that does not reciprocate and there is a few situations/people I want to stay away from. They were and are not healthy for us.}

The spider is also symbolic of feminine power or an overbearing mother figure in your life.

Alternatively, a spider refers to a powerful force protecting you against your self-destructive behavior. {DieAnne is the self destructive one, and we have been praying and reaching out to our Spirit Guides to help her which helps the rest of us.So they sent DieAnne a spider totem via dream.}

If you kill a spider in your dream, then it symbolizes misfortune and bad luck. To see a dead spider in your dream implies that you have overcome some strong feminine temptation.

To see a spider spinning a web in your dream signifies that you will be rewarded for your hard work. {There were webs for sure… ick.}

You will be promoted in your job or recognized for your achievement in a difficult task.

Spiders are also a symbol of creativity due to the intricate webs they spin. {We are creative for sure.}

On a negative note, spiders may indicate a feeling of being entangled or trapped in a sticky or clingy relationship. {No relationships at this time so that sticky clingy can mean internally within The Collective}

It represents some ensnaring and controlling force. You feel that someone or some situation is sucking the life right out of you. {Oh so true… and we also feel ensnared, stuck and trapped like something or someone is sucking the life out of us… we are still working on that to get the sucking to stop! lol}

Alternatively, if a spider is spinning a web in your dream, then it could be a metaphor for the world-wide web and global communication. To see spider eggs in a web suggest that you are not able to fully acknowledge your potential. You are being held back from expressing yourself.

To see a spider climbing up a wall in your dream denotes that your desires will be soon be realized. To dream that a spider is coming down on you from the ceiling indicates that you are unable to escape from some relationship. If you dream of baby spiders, then it symbolizes a new or recent relationship.

To dream that you are bitten by a spider represents a conflict with your mother or some dominant female figure in your life. The dream may be a metaphor for a devouring mother or the feminine power to possess and entrap. Perhaps you are feeling trapped by some relationship. If you eat a spider or dream that a spider is in your mouth symbolizes your control over a situation. You are not afraid to exert your dominance in a relationship.

Here is the info I got from Animal Totems Dictionary on Spiders…
