Depression and Her Master

It’s the end of the world as we know it… she is told.
There is no hope… she is told.
Everything is lost… she is also told.

She sinks down in defeat, hugging her knees while the tears sting at her eyes.

Can she be blamed?
Depression is Her Master.
She must do what she is told or she fights The Cutter.

No one can win against The Cutter.
So she submits to the hopelessness of Depression ~ Her Master.

The sun is no longer welcome, in darkness there is comfort.
In darkness is where she can function, hidden, in solitude.

In the light she is blinded, confused and overwhelmed…
She runs back to the comfort of the darkness.
It envelops her, telling her to let go and be with it forever.

She is torn between wanting to obey Her Master and obey the last spark of hope.
She fears the last spark more than she does Her Master.

By submitting to Her Master she will surely end up where she fears.

By submitting to the last spark of hope, she can end up with a new start and not where she fears.

Which is what she fears most of all.

  1. This is a great piece that details what it’s like for people with depression. They find comfort in the sadness. You become so used to it that it becomes more familiar than happiness itself. Always remember that despise the comfort that hope is what makes us keep going. You are not alone in this. Keep writing!
